In each case it travels for 15 minutes which is 1/4 hour. Therefore it travels 1/4 of the distance it would in an hour. In the first segment that would be 1/4 x 36 = 9 km. In the second case it would be 1/4 x 60 = 15 km. Therefore the total distance traveled is 9 + 15 = 24 km.

Explanation:

we can divide this into two parts

first the speed is 36kmph and time is 15 min

convert time to hours as speed is km per hour

15 mins= 1/4 hour

D1= v1×t1

D1= 36×1/4

D1= 9km

D2= v2×t2

d2= 60×1/4

D2= 15km

d= d1+D2

d= 9+15

d=24km
