Let the distance from A to B be 's' and the time taken to travel from A to B be t1

Since v= s/t

Here, 40=s/t1

          =t1= s/40

The distance from B to A will also be 's' but the time taken will be different as the speed is different. So, let the time taken from B to A be t2

So, 60=s/t2

    = t2= s/60

The total time take to go from A to B and then B to A will be t1+t2

     = total time= t1+t2

             = t= s/60+s/40

Total distance throughout= s+s = 2s

Now, average speed= total distance/ total time

                                  =2s/( s/60+ s/40)

                                  =2sx 60x 40/(60s + 40s)

        Average speed=24kmph/hr
