Speed taken to go town A to town B=40 km/hr

Speed of car from going station B to A=60 km/hr

Let the distance be x km

Then the time will be distance /speed

For A to B, Time taken=x/40 (t 1)

For B to A, Time taken=x/60 (t 2)

Total time =t 1 + t 2

=>x/40 + x/60 =( 3x + 2x)/120

-> 5x/120 = x/24

Average speed = Total distance / Total time

2x/x/24 = 48 km /hr

ANSWER = 48 km /hr
