distance covered by him in first 3 hours= (speed×time)

= 50 kmph × 3 h

= 150 km

Distance left= 280 - 150 = 130 km

Time left = 5 - 3 = 2hrs

Speed by which he covered 130 km in 2 hrs = 130/2

= 65kmph

Hence, the cars should be 65kmph after first 3 hours if it has to cover 280 km in 5 hours.
