A car having mass 1 metric ton when in first gear has velocity 18 km/hr it takes 10 seconds to accelerate into 4th gear to attain 108 km/hr speed. Compute i) change in velocity from 1st to fourth gear
ii) acceleration
iii) force
iv) distance covered if engine is switched off and road retards its motion at the rate of 2 m/s^2 till it comes to rest

Answer:

M=1000kg

u=18km/h =5m/s

v=108km/h =30m/s

t=10s

A) change in velocity = v-u

. . . . . . . =30-5=25m/s

B) acceleration =a

. . a=(v-u) /t

a=(30-5)/10

a=25/10

a=2.5m/s²

C) F=ma

. . F=1000×2.5

. . . F=2500 N or 2500 kg m/s²

D) distance=s, u=5 m/s

s=ut + 1/2 a t²

s=5m/s×10s +1/2×-(20m/s² ×100s)

s=50m/s² + 1/2 × - 2000m/s²

s=50m/s² - 1000m/s²

s=1050m

s=1.05 km

Answer:

i) convert km/hr to m/s. then Find the the difference between the initial and final velocity. Then find the tine interval between the two. then use the formula of acceleration to find out the answer.

ii) multiply the mass of the car and the acceleration. f=ma

Explanation:

note: while multiplying see that all the units are in si unit or same
