Given that car initially at rest acquires a velocity of 36 km/h in 5 minutes.

We have to find acceleration of car & distance travelled by car in 5 minutes.

Solution

As car is at rest initially so, initial velocity i.e. u = 0 m/s

And, final velocity of car = 36 km/h

Converting it into m/s

➻ Final velocity = 36 × (5/18)

Final velocity (v) = 10 m/s

Again, time given = 5 minutes.

Converting it into seconds.

➻ Time = (5 × 60) s

Time (t) = 300 s

Using 1st equation of motion :

v = u + at

➻ 10 = 0 + a(300)

➻ 10 = 300a

➻ a = 10/300

a = 1/30 m/s²

Acceleration of car = (1/30) m/s²

Now using 2nd equation of motion :

s = ut + ½ at²

➻ s = 0 × 300 + ½ (1/30 × 300²)

➻ s = ½(1/30 × 90000)

➻ s = ½(3000)

s = 1500 m

Distance travelled by car = 1500 m
