your question is incomplete . a complete question is ------> A 40kg car is lying at a speed of 72 km/h. it explodes into two pieces , one piece of mass of 15kg stops. calculate the velocity of other piece ?

solution :- use law of conservation of linear momentum,
MV=m_1v_1+m_2v_2

where M is mass of whole car .
m_1 is the mass of 1st piece.
m_2 is the mass of 2nd piece.
v_1 is the velocity of 1st piece.
v_2 is the velocity of 2nd piece.

V = 72 km/h = 72 × 5/18 = 20 m/s
v_1=0 ,

40 × 20 = 15 × 0 + (40 - 15) × v2
800 = 0 + 25v2
v2 = 32 m/s

HEY DEAR ... ✌️

I think ur question is little incorrect .

Q.) A car initially at rest picks up a velocity of 72 km per hour it explodes into two pieces of which one piece of mass 15 kg stops immediately calculate the velocity of other (places) ?
40 Kg
Instead of places there should be pieces .

So , Here's your Answer ...

=) Acc. to question ,

=) To find , V = ?

=) By using the law of conservation of linear momentum ,

=) MV = m1v1 + m2v2 .

=) The meanings ,

M = Mass of car .
m1 = Mass of first piece .
m2 = Mass of second piece .
v1 = Velocity of first piece .
v2 = Velocity of second piece .

First , To convert velocity Km/h to m/s .

=)
72 \times \frac{5}{18}
=) 20 m/s .

=) So , MV = m1v1 + m2v2 .

=) Putting the values .

=) 40×20 = 15×0+(40-15) v2 .

=) v2 = 32 m/sec .

=) Hence , Velocity of other piece is 32m/sec .
