Displacement refers to shortest distance and in first 2 case shortest distance becomes hypotenuse and the third distance is in same direction thus they are additive
Displacement =50+20root2 m
Displacement =50+20root2 m

The net displacement required is AD
BF = CE = 20 root2 Cos 45 = 20m
AF = 40 + 20 = 60m
ED = 20 root2 Sin45 = 20m
DF = DE + EF = 20 + 30 = 50m
Using triangle ADF and Pythagora’s Theorem
AD = root AF 2 + DF2
= root 60^2 + 50^2
= 78.10m
Tan DAF = 50/60 = 5/6
< DAF = 40 Degrees
90 – 40 = 50 degrees
BF = CE = 20 root2 Cos 45 = 20m
AF = 40 + 20 = 60m
ED = 20 root2 Sin45 = 20m
DF = DE + EF = 20 + 30 = 50m
