A car is moving with a uniform velocity of 10 m/s. The driver decided to over take a bus moving ahead of the car so the driver of the car accelerates at 1 m/s square for 10 second. Find the velocity of the car at the end of 10 second. Also find the distance travelled by the car while accelerating.

initial velocity, u = 10 m/s
final velocity , v = ?
a = 1 m/s²
t = 10 sec
By 1st law of motion,
v = u +at
= 10 + 1×10 = 20 m/s
Now, by 3rd equation of motion,
v² - u² = 2as
⇒(20)²-(10)² = 2×1×s
⇒300 = 2s
⇒s = 150 m
