A car is moving with an initial velocity of 30m/s. Then brakes are applied and car receives an acceleration of -2m/s2. How far will it have gone: 1)when its velocity has decreased to 15m/s and 2)when it comes to rest ?

Answer:

168.75,0 m

Explanation:

initial velocity =30m/s

final velocity =15m/s

acceleration =-2m/s²

t=v-u/a t= time v= final velocity u=initial velocity a=acceleration

t=-15/-2

t=7.5s

let distance be s

by second equation of motion s=ut+1/2at²

30×7.5+1/2×-2×(7.5)²

225+1/2×-2×56.25

225-56.25

168.75=s

2) when an object comes to rest final velocity is 0

t=v-u/a

t=0-30/-2

t=15s

by second equation of motion s=ut+1/2at²

s=30×7.5+1/2×-2×15²

s=225+1/2×-2×225

s=225-225=0

hope you got it
