Given:

  • Speed of car = 20 m/s
  • The driver applies brakes & stops in 5s

To find:

  • Acceleration of the car

Solution:

Here , the final velocity will be = 0 m/s because the driver applies brakes

Using the first kinematic equation

v = u + at

Where ,

  • v : final velocity
  • u : initial velocity
  • a : acceleration
  • t : time

→ 0 = 20 + a(5)

→ - 20 = 5a

→ a = -20/5

acceleration = - 4 m/

Note : -ve symbol indicates retardation

Hence , acceleration produced after applying brakes = - 4m/

Answer:

Given

u=20m/s

v=0

t=5

a=?

now

a=v-u/t

a=0-20/5

= -20/5

= -4

hence a= -4m s^-2

as the body is regarding the a is negative

hope it will help u
