In the above Question , the following information is given -

Acar is traveling with a speed of 90kmph.

Brakes are applied so as to produce a uniform acceleration of -0.5 m/s² .

To find - The distance travelled by the car before it comes to rest.

Solution -

Here , the innitial speed of the car is 90 kmph .

Converting this speed to SI Units -

90 kmph

=> 90 × ( 5 / 18 ) m / s

=> 25 m / s .

So,

Innitial speed of the car , u = 25 m / s .

The car finally stops .

Hence , final speed of the car, v = 0 m / s

Acceleration = -0.5 m/s²

Now ,

According to third Equation of motion -

v² = u² + 2as

=> 0 = 625 - s

=> S = 625 metres ..... Answer

We know that ,

u ( Initial velocity ) = 90 kmph = 25m/ s

t ( time ) = ?

a ( acceleration ) = -0.5m/s2

s ( distance ) = ?

v ( Final velocity ) = 0 m/ s

We know that v = u + at

0 = 25 - 0.5 t

-25 = -0.5 t

t = -25 / -0.5 = 50 s

Also , 2as = v2 - u2

2 × (-0.5) × s = 0^2 - 25^2

-1 × s = - 625

s = 625 m
