A car is travelling at 10 m/s. Brakes are
applied and velocity decreases at a rate of
0.5 m/s? How long will it take the car to

velocity of car = 10 m/s . As it is given that velocity decrease at the rate of 0. 5 m/ s so there will retardation , so acceleration = - 0.5 m per second square .When the car will stop it's velocity will become 0 .So the final velocity = 0 . Now from relation , v= u + at we will find the time [ v = u + at ] = [0 = 10 + (-0.5)×t]= [0= 10 - 5t] = [5t=10]=[t= 10/5] = [t= 2] . therefore , the time taken by car to stop = 2 seconds
