Question :-

A car traveling at 36 km/h speeds up to 72 km/h in 5 seconds. What is the acceleration of the Car?

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

Solution :-

Given,

Initial Velocity, u = 36 km/h ;

Final Velocity, v = 72 km/h ;

Time, t = 5 Seconds

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

Converting all the Quantities in the same Unit, we have -

Initial Velocity of the Car, u = \mathtt {36\: kmh^{-1}  \times \dfrac{5}{18}} = \bf 10\: ms^{-1}

Final Velocity of the Car, v = \mathtt {72\: kmh^{-1} \times \dfrac{5}{18}} = \bf 20\: ms^{-1}

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

We know,

\boxed {\mathtt {Acceleration, a = \dfrac{v - u}{t}}}

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

Substituting the given Values of u, v and t in the above Equation, we get -

\begin {aligned} \bold {Acceleration, a} &= \dfrac{(20\: ms^{-1} - 10\: ms^{-1})}{5\: s}\\\\&\Rightarrow \dfrac{10\: ms^{-1}}{5\: s}\\\\\therefore \ \bold a &= \underline {\boxed {\bf 2\: ms^{-2}}}\ \star \end {aligned}

Hence, the Acceleration of the Car is \underline {\underline {\bf 2\: ms^{-2}}}

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

Additional Information :-

\bullet The Speed of an Object is the Distance covered per unit time, and Velocity is the Displacement per unit time.

Speed and Velocity have the same units, that is, ms^{-1} or m/s

\begin {gathered} \end {gathered}

\bullet The Acceleration of an Object is the change in Velocity per unit time. That is,

\mathrm {Acceleration = \dfrac{Change\: in\: Velocity}{Time\: Taken}}
