Solution :

Given :-

A car moves 100m due east and then 25m due west.

To Find :-

  • Distance travelled
  • Displacement

Concept :-

▪ Distance is defined as actual length of path which is covered by moving body whereas, displacement is defined as the shortest distance between initial and final position of the whole journey.

▪ Distance is scalar quantity whereas displacement is vector quantity.

Calculation :-

  • Distance travelled

✏ Distance = 100 + 25

Distance = 125m

  • Displacement

✏ Displacement = Δposition

✏ Displacement = 100 - 25

Displacement = 75m
