. A car moves at a speed of 15m/s. It retards uniformly to a new speed of 5m/s. If this takes 10 seconds, calculate the retardation and distance that the car travels.

Hola mate !!

Here, we begin.

We are given that

  • initial velocity of car is 15m/s
  • final velocity of car is 5m/s
  • time taken is 10 s

So use the formula now ,

Retardation=final velocity- initial velocity/time taken

Now put the value mate as given above.

Retardation=15-5/10

Retardation=10/10

Retardation=-1m/

Retardation is always negative.

Now we have to find the distance travelled by the car.

Distance=initial velocity×time taken+½×acceleration×(time taken)²

s=ut+½at²

s=15×10+½×-1×10×10

s=150-50

s=100m

It's a humble request mate.
