ave speed=distance/travel time

travel time=distance/speed

=(x/2)/40+(x/2)/60

=x/80+x/120

=(80x+120x)/(80*120)

=200x/9600

..

ave speed=x/(200x/9600)=9600/200=48

average speed of the car=48 km/hr
