As per the question , the car moves with speed of 40 km/hr for 15 min and then with a speed of 60 km/hr for next 20 minutes.

To find:

Total distance travelled

Concept:

Distance is a scalar quantity representing the total path length . It only has magnitude and no directions.

Mathematically , it is the product of speed and time taken.

Calculation:

15 min = ¼ hour ; 20 min = ⅓ hour

Let distance be d :

d = (40 \times  \frac{1}{4} ) + (60 \times  \frac{1}{3} )

 =  > d = 10 + 20

 =  > d = 30 \: km

So final answer :

Total Distance travelled is 30 km.

  • Total distance travelled

In the given question,

We saw that,

➦ Car travelled at 40km / h for 15 minutes

➦ Car travelled at 60 km/h for 20 minutes

We know that,

1 hour = 60 minutes

Then,

15 minutes = 15/60 = 1/4 hour

20 minutes = 20/60 = 1/3 hour

Now,

We know that,

Distance travelled = Speed × Time

So,

Cᴀsᴇ - 1

  • Speed = 40 km/h

  • Time = 1/4 hour

  • Distance travelled = 40 × 1/4 = 10 km

Cᴀsᴇ - 2

  • Speed = 60 km/h

  • Time = 1/3 hour

  • Distance travelled = 60 × 1/3 = 20 km

Hence,

\bold{Total \ Distance \ Travelled \ = \ 10 + 20 = 30 km}
