Solution :

Given:

✏ A car moves with speed 60kmph for 1h in east direction and with same speed for 1/2 h in south direction

To Find:

✏ Displacement of car

Concept:

✏ Displacement is defined as the shortest distance between the two points.

Formula:

✏ We know the basic formula of Distance that,

  • Distance = speed × time

Calculation:

  • Distance covered in east

✏ d1 = 60 × 1

d1 = 60km

  • Distance covered in south

✏ d2 = 60 × 1/2

d2 = 30km

  • Displacement

✏ Please, see the attachment for calculation of displacement

Displacement = 67.08 km

Additional information:

  • Displacement is vector quantity.
  • Distance travelled is scalar quantity.
  • Displacement can be positive, negative and zero.
