A) Distance travelled by the car A is the actual path length covered by the car A.
according to figure, the path length will be the sum of all the sides to given rectangle.
Distance travelled by the car = PQ+QR+RS+SP
Distance travelled by the car = 5+2+5+2 = 14 km
B) Displacement of the car A is the shortest distance between initial and final position.
Since the given car A starts from point P and came back to point p, the net displacement of the car is zero.
What is the difference between Distance and displacement?
Distance
- It is defined as the actual path length covered by an object during its motion.
- it is a scalar quantity.
- It is always positive.
Displacement
- It is defined as the shortest distance between initial and final position.
- It is a vector quantity.
- It can be positive, negative, zero.
