Initial velocity of car = u = 54 km/hr = 54 x 5/18 = 15 m/sec
Time taken to stop = t = 5 seconds
Final velocity = v = 0 m/sec
AS given acceleration is constant , a = v-u/t = 0-15/5 = -3 m/sec²
Hence car undergoes retardation of 3m/s².
