Given:

A car moving in a straight line at a speed of 120 Km covered in 2 hours. thereafter from that left side, it covers 50 Km in 1 hour.

To Find:

The average speed and average velocity.

Solution:

To find the average speed and average velocity we will follow the following steps:

As we know,

Average speed is the total distance travelled divided by the total time taken.

So,

speed \: = \frac{total \: \: distance}{total \: time} = \frac{120 + 50}{2 + 1} = \frac{170}{3} = 56.6 \: kmh - 1

Velocity is the ratio of displacement to total time taken by the car.

Displacement is the shortest distance travelled and it is the final distance - initial distance = 120-50 = 70 Km.

average \: velocity \: = \frac{displacement}{total \: time} = \frac{120 - 50}{2 + 1} = \frac{70}{3} = 23.3 \: kmh - 1

Henceforth, average speed and average velocity are 56.6 Kmh-1 and 23.3kmh-1 respectively.
