Velocity becomes 7m/s with in 88m. What further
distance it will travel before coming to rest with same retardation?

Answer:

It will travel 24.5m before coming to rest

Explanation:

Initial velocity V1=15 m/s

After some time velocity V2=7 m/s

Travelled distance d=88 m

Acceleration due to break = a=?

  • (v2) ^2-(v1)^2=2*a*d
  • 49-225=2*88*a
  • -176=176a
  • a=-1m/s^2

Here minus sign shows acceleration is in the opposite direction of velocity.

Now,

V3=0 m/s (rest condition)

S= distance travelled before coming to rest

  • (V3)^2-(v1)^2=2*a*S
  • 0-225= -2*S
  • S=112.5 m

So distance travelled before coming to the rest after, when velocity become 7 m/s = S - d

=112.5 - 88

= 24.5 m
