The initial and final momentum of the car is 10000 kg-m/s and 0 respectively.

Explanation:

Given that,

Mass of the car, m = 1000 kg

Initial speed of the car, u = 10 m/s

Finally, brakes are applied, v = 0

Time, t = 5 s

The product of mass and velocity is called momentum of an object. It is given by :

Initial momentum :

p_i=mu

p_i=1000\times 10

p_i=10000\ kg-m/s

Final momentum :

p_f=mv

p_f=1000\times 0

p_f=0\ kg-m/s

So, the initial and final momentum of the car is 10000 kg-m/s and 0 respectively.

Answer:

mass =1000kg

intial velocity (u) =10m/s

final velocity (v) = 0m/s

intial momentum = p1 = mu

= 1000 kg ×10m/s

= 10000 kgm/s

final momentum = p2 = mv

= 1000 kg ×0 m/s

= 0 kgm/s
