Mass of the car, m = 1000 kg

Initial speed of the car, u = 45 km/hr = 12.5 m/s

It stops so v = 0

Time taken, t = 5 s

Force exerted by the car on the tree can be calculated by using the formula:

F=ma

But v=u+at

a= (v-u)/t

 = (0-12.5)/5

 = -12.5 / 5

 = - 2.5 m/s

Thus F= 1000* -(2.5)

          = - 2500 N

 -ve sign shows that the car was retarded
