A car of mass 1500 kg, moving with a uniform speed of 40 km/hr, is brought to rest by applying a uniform retarding force of 750 N. What is the time duration after which the car will come to rest?

Mass of car =1500 kg
speed = 40 km/hr
force applied =750N
therefore , retardation acceleration (a) = force/mass
a = 750/1500= - 0.2 m/s^2 . ( negative sign because retarding force is applied)
now , after some time car comes to rest so, final velocity will be 0 . therefore V=0 .
now putting in eqn. v=u+at we will get,
0=11.111- 0.2*t ( initial velocity is changed into metre/sec.)
t= 11.111/0.2=55.555 sec.
