A car of mass 200 kg is moving with a velocity of 25 m/s. Brakes are applied and the car comes to rest in 5 s. Find (i) the retardation (ii) the magnitude of force used to stop the car.

Final velocity,v=0(As the car comes to rest)

Time =5s

As we know that v=u+at

0=25+5a

-25=5a

a=-5m/s^2

Here,the retardation is -5m/s^2

(2) Mass,m=200kg

a=-5m/s^2

Force,f=?

As we know that,F= m×a

F=200×-5

F=-1000N
