we know that,
v^2= u^2 +2as
=> v^2 - u^2= 2as
=>(v^2-u^2) / 2s = a
=>(0^2-20^2) / 2*8 = a
=>(0-400) / 16=a
=> -400/16= a
=> -25=a
=>-a =25

therefore, -a = retardation= 25m/s^2
