CORRECT QUESTION:

A car runs 16 km using 1 litre of petrol. How much distance it will cover using 2 3/4 litres.

ANSWER:

Distance will cover using 2 3/4 litres = 44 km

GIVEN:

  • A car runs 16 km using 1 litre of petrol.

TO FIND:

  • Distance will cover using 2 3/4 litres.

EXPLANATION:

2 3/4 litres = (8 + 3)/4 litres

2 3/4 litres = 11/4 litres

1 litre ----------> 16 km

11/4 litre ---------> x km

x = (11/4 × 16) ÷ 1

x = 11 × 4

x = 44 km

Using 2 3/4 litres of petrol the car will travel 44 km.

SOME IMPORTANT CONVERSIONS:

  • 1 km = 1000 m

  • 1 hour = 3600 s

  • 1 kmph = 1000/3600 m/s = 5/18 m/s

  • 1 m/s = 18/5 kmph

Here kmph = kilometre per hour.
