Given that:

  • A car runs at a speed of 51 km/hour and in 40 minutes, covers certain distance.

To Find:

  • How much time will it take to cover the same distance at a speed of 30 km/hr.

We know that:

  • Distance = Speed × Time
  • Time = Distance/Speed

We have:

  • Speed = 51 km/hr
  • Time = 40 minutes

⇒ 60 min = 1 hr

⇒ 40 min = 40/60 = 2/3 hr

Finding the distance:

⟶ Distance = 51 × 2/3

⟶ Distance = 102/3

⟶ Distance = 34

∴ Total distance = 34 km

Now we have:

  • Distance = 34 km
  • Speed = 30 km/hr

Finding the time taken:

⟶ Time = 34/30

⟶ Time = 1 2⁄15

∴ Time taken = 1 2⁄15 hr

Converting time into minutes:

  • 1 hr = 60 min
  • 1 2⁄15 hr = 1 hr + (2 × 60)/15 min
  • 1 2⁄15 hr = 1 hr + 8 min

Hence,

  • It will take 1 hour and 8 minutes to cover the same distance at a speed of 30 km/hr.

Understanding the question: This question says that there is a car which is running at a speed of 51 km/hour and in 40 minutes, covers certain distance. Now this question says that we have to find out that in how much time will it take to cover the same distance at a speed of 30 km/hr. Let's see how to do!

Provided that:

Speed = 51 km/h

Time taken = 40 minutes

To calculate:

The time will it take to cover the same distance at a speed of 30 km/hr.

Solution:

The time will it take to cover the same distance at a speed of 30 km/hr = 1 hour 8 minutes

Using concepts:

• Formula to find distance

• Formula to find time taken

• Formula to convert min into hr

Using formulas:

{\small{\underline{\boxed{\sf{\star \: Distance \: = Speed \times Time}}}}}

{\small{\underline{\boxed{\sf{\star \: Time \: = \dfrac{Distance}{Speed}}}}}}

We know that,

  • 1 hour = 60 minutes

\qquad \qquad \qquad{\sf{\ddag \: \: Henceforth,}}

{\small{\underline{\boxed{\sf{\star \: 1 \: minute \: = \dfrac{1}{60} \: hour}}}}}

Required solution:

~ Firstly let us convert 40 minutes into hours, by using suitable formula!

→ 1 hour = 60 minutes

→ 1 minute = 1/60 hour

→ 40 minutes = 40/60 hour

→ 40 minutes = 4/6 hour

→ 40 minutes = 2/3 hour

~ Now let's find new distance as now the time is in hours!

→ Distance = Speed × Time

→ Distance = 51 × 2/3

→ Distance = 17 × 2

Distance = 34 kilometres

~ Now let's calculate time, here the speed is 30 km/h as we are asked to find according to the question!

→ Time = Distance/Speed

→ Time = 34/30

→ Time = 17/15

{\sf{Time \: = 1 \dfrac{2}{15}}}

~ Now let's calculate it into min and hr

{\sf{Time \: = 1 \dfrac{2}{15}}}

  • Here, 1 is hour and have to calculate 2/15 in minutes!

→ 1 hr = 60 minutes

{\sf{Time \: = 1 + \dfrac{2 \times 60}{15}}}

{\sf{Time \: = 1 + \dfrac{120}{15}}}

{\sf{Time \: = 1 + \dfrac{40}{5}}}

{\sf{Time \: = 1 + 8}}

{\sf{Time \: = 1 \: hr \: 8 \: min}}

Henceforth, solved!

• Distance = It is the length of actual path covered by a moving object in a given time interval.

• Speed = Distance travelled by a moving object in unit time interval is called speed i.e., speed Distance/Time. It's scaler quantity and it's SI unit is metre/second
