60+40 =100 , 100/2 = 50 km is the average speed ( 2 is divided with 100 as it is 1+1 = 2 hours

Step-by-step explanation:

speed of first half =40km /hr =40×1000 / (60×60) = 40000/3600 =11.111 m/s

speed of second half = 60 km/hr =60 ×1000 /(60×60) =60000/3600 = 16 .67

aerage speed = (11.11 + 16.67)÷2 =27.78÷2 =13.89m/s
