The engine of the car on an average should be of 48.94 hp

Explanation:

It is given that,

Mas of the car, m = 1000 kg

Initial speed of the car, u = 0

Final speed of the car, v = 24 m/s

Time, t = 8 s

We know that the wok done per unit time is called power of the car. It is given by :

P=\dfrac{W}{t}

W = change in kinetic energy

W=\dfrac{1}{2}m(v^2-u^2)

W=\dfrac{1}{2}m(v^2)

W=\dfrac{1}{2}\times 1000\times 24^2

W =288000 J

Power,

P=\dfrac{288000\ J}{8\ s}

P = 36000 Watts

Since, 1 horsepower = 735.499 watts

So, P = 48.94 hp

So, the engine of the car on an average should be of 48.94 hp. Hence, the correct option is (b).
