We know v = u + at

40 \frac{m}{s}  = u + 2.5 \frac{m}{ {s}^{2} }

40 \frac{m}{s}  = u + 25 \frac{m}{s}

u = (40 - 25) \frac{m}{s}

 = 15 \frac{m}{s}

initial velocity of the car = 15 m/s
