A car starting from rest moves along a straight path with constant acceleration of 5 m/sec² for 10 secs, then it moves with constant velocity. Calculate the distance travelled by the car in 15 seconds from the start.

Answer:

Using v= u+at

v = 0 + 10 × 10

v = 100m/s

Now s= ut+ 1/2 × at²

s = 0 × 10 + 1/2 × 10 × 10²

s = 0 + 1/2 × 1000

s = 500m > Distance covered in first 10 sec

Now for next 5 sec v = 100m/s

From s = ut + 1/2 × at²

s = 100× 5 + 1/2 × 0

s = 500m

So total distance covered in 15 sec = 500+500

= 1km

Explanation:

Acceleration was 0 in second case as velocity was constant. Also for next 5 sec initial velocity would be 100m/s.
