. A car starts at point A and travels x km due North to B. From B it travels y km due East to C. It then travels 10 km from C to its destination D on a bearing of 120⁰. D is located 12.5 km due East of the starting point A. Draw and label a diagram (does not have to be to scale) to represent the path of the car and then calculate the total distance travelled by the car.

Total distance travelled by the car = 26.16 km

Step-by-step explanation:

Sin 30 = DP/CD

=> 1/2  = DP/10

=> DP = 5 km

AD = AP + DP

AD = 12.5 km

AP = BC = y

y + 5 = 12.5

=> y = 7.5 km

Cos30  = CP/CD

√3 / 2=  CP/10

=> CP = 5√3  km

AB = CP

=> x = 5√3  km

Total Distance Covered = x + y + 10

= 5√3 + 7.5 + 10

= 5√3 + 17.5

= 26.16 km
