A car starts from rest and accelerates uniformly at the rate of 1 metre per second square for 5 seconds .It then maintains a constant velocity for 30 seconds. Then brakes are applied and the car is uniformly retarded to rest in 10 seconds .Find the total distance travelled by it.

Answer:

The total distance is 187.5 m.

Explanation:

Given that,

Acceleration a = 1 m/s^2

Time t = 5 s

The velocity is

Using equation of motion,

v = u+at

v = 0+1\times 5

v = 5\ m/s

According to graph ,

The total distance traveled

Area of OACE = area of OAD+area of ABCD +area of CDE

D = \dfrac{1}{2}\times5\times5+30\times5+\dfrac{1}{2}\times10\times5

D = 187.5\ m

Hence, The total distance is 187.5 m.
