First of all, you need to convert km/hr to m/s as time is given in seconds,(or convert seconds to hours, but its difficult to convert 10 seconds to hours, anyway, your choice). Then, use the equation v = u + at , a = (v-u) / t

u = 0 , given

v = 40 x 5/18 (to convert km/hr to m/s) v = 11.11 m/s .

t = 10 seconds

a = (11.11 - 0) / 10 = 11.11 / 10 = 1.11 m/s^2.
