A car starts from rest and attains a velocity of 54 km/h in 2 mins. The driver applies brakes and decelerates the car to 36 km/h in 10 sec. Find the acceleration of the car in both the cases

u = 0 m/s

v = 54 km/ hr = 54 *5/18 = 15 m/s

t = 2 min = 120 sec

Now we know that

a =  \frac{v - u}{t}

 =  > a =  \frac{15 - 0}{120}

  =  > a = 0.125 \:

Case 2

u = 15 m/s

v = 36 km/h = 36*5/18 = 10 m/s

t = 10 sec

Now we know that

a \:  =  \frac{v - u}{t}

 =  > a = \frac{10 - 15}{10}

 =  > a =  - 0.5

Minus sign indicate that decelerate
