A car starts from rest and moves along the x-axis with constant acceleration 5 m s–2 for 8 seconds. If it then continues with constant velocity, what distances will the car cover in 12 seconds since it started from the rest?

320 m

8 sec with acc.

distance covered=1/2at2

=1/2×5×8×8

=160m

after 8 sec velocity= at =8×5=40

constant velocity for 12-8=4sec

distance covered=v×t

=40×4=160

total distance covered=160+160 =320m

Answer:

Distance covered in first 8 seconds= ut+ 0.5at^2 + 0+0.5*5*8*8 = 160m

velocity after 8 seconds = u+at = 0+5*8 =40m/s

Distance travelled from 8 to 12 seconds= speed*time =40*4 =160m

Total dist travelled= 160+160=320m
