A car starts from the rest and moves along the x axsis with a constant acceleration of 5m/s2 for 8 sec. If it then continues to move with a constant velocity , what distance will the car cover in 12 sec since it started from rest.

As first, for 8 sec
t =8 sec
a = 5 m/s²
u =0
as, s = ut +(1/2)at²
= (1/2)×5×(8)²
= 160 m
v= u +at = 5×8 = 40 m/s
then, for next 4 sec,
a= 0
u = 40 m/s
t = 4 sec
so, s = ut +(1/2)at²
= ut = 40×4 = 160 m
so total distance in (8+4) = 12 sec is (160+160) = 320 m
t =8 sec
a = 5 m/s²
u =0
as, s = ut +(1/2)at²
= (1/2)×5×(8)²
= 160 m
v= u +at = 5×8 = 40 m/s
then, for next 4 sec,
a= 0
u = 40 m/s
t = 4 sec
so, s = ut +(1/2)at²
= ut = 40×4 = 160 m
so total distance in (8+4) = 12 sec is (160+160) = 320 m
