A car starts moving with an acceleration 5 m/s for 10 sec then it decelerates with 2m/s find the total distance travelled by the car till it stop

Let us first calculate the velocity achieved by the car at the end of 10s

v=u+at

as u=0 v=50m/s

distance traveled at the end of first 10 sec= s= at²÷2= 5×100÷2= 250m

Time taken for the car to go to rest that is v=0, u=50 a=-2

v=u+at

t=u÷a=25s

Distance travelled= 2×a×s =v²-u²

2×2×s=2500

s=2500÷4

s=625

The total distance traveled= 625+250

                                             =875m
