Given :

Initial speed of car , u = 60 km/hr .

Returning speed , v = 40 km/hr .

To Find :

Average speed for the journey.

Solution :

We know , average of two quantity x and y is given by :

Avg=\dfrac{x+y}{2}

So , average speed is given by :

v_{avg}=\dfrac{u+v}{2}\\\\v_{avg}=\dfrac{60+40}{2}\\\\v_{avg}=50\ km/hr

Hence , this is the required solution .
