in first case to find acceleration we have

u = 36km/h = 10m/s

v = 72km/h = 20m/s

t = 1s

we know ,

a = (v - u) / t

= (20 - 10)m/s / 1s

= 10m/s^2

in second case to find retardation we have

u = 20m/s

v = 0m/s

t = 20s

we know,

a = (v - u) /t

= (0 - 20)m/s / 20s

= -1m/s^2

hope it will help you..........
