A car travelled a total distance of 120 km.for the first half of the journey it travelled with an average speed of 60km/hr and the next half it travelled at an average speed of 40km/hr.what was the average speed of the entire journey ?

S=120km

Given.

First Half Journey i.e. S/2 =60km is travelled with a velocity of 60km/hr.

Therefore,

t1 = S/v =60/60 =1 hr

Similarly,

t2= S/v = 60/40= 3/2 hr= 1.5hr

So, Total Distance=60+60= 120km and Total Time= 1+1.5=2.5hr

Now, we know Avg speed=Total Distance/Total Time

Vavg = 120/2.5= 48km/hr

So,we got the Avg speed= 48km/hr.
