A car travelling along a straight line with velocity 360 km/hr can be stopped in distance of 16 m by applying brakes.What would be the stopping distance if its initial velocity is 180 km/hr?

u = 360km/hr = 100m/s

v = 0m/s

s = 16m

By using equation,

v²=u²+2as

0 = 100²+2a×16

0 = 10000 +32a

-10000 = 32a

a = -10000/32 = -312.5m/s²

Now, In second case,

u = 180km/hr =50m/s

v = 0m/s

a = -312.5m/s² {found earlier}

By using equation,

v²=u²+2as

0 = 50² +2×(-312.5)s

0 = 2500-625s

-2500 = -625s

s = -2500/-625 = 4m

It's stopping distance will be 4m

Cheers!
