Here,

u = 36 km/h = 10 m/s

v = 72 km/h = 20 m/s

t = 5 sec

a = (v - u)/t

a = (20 - 10)/5

a = 10/5

a = 2 m/s^2 = acceleration

now,

u = 20 m/s

v = 0 m/s

t = 20 sec

a = (0 - 20)/20

a = -20/20

a = -1 m/s^2 = retardation
