According to the question given, there are 2 parts in this question. One is of 100 kms and another is of 400 kms.

Now, total displacement = total distance (as the velocity of object is never zero during the motion).

So, total displacement = 500 kms

Now, find Time for 1st part of motion. That'll be 100/50 = 2hrs.

Time for 2nd part of motion. That'll be 400/40 = 10hrs.

So, the total time is 12 hrs.

Now, use the formula for avg Vel = 500/12 = 41.67 kmph
