A car travels 100km at a speed of 60km/hr and returns with a speed of 40km/h .calculate the average speed for the whole journey

time for first journey=100/60=5/3 hr

time for second journey ie the return trip=100/40=5/2 hr

average speed=total distance/total time taken

=200/5/3+5/2

=48 km/hr (approx)
