a car travels 20 km at a uniform speed of 40 km / hr and the next 20 km at a speed of 60 km / hr .find its average speed.

v = d/t
t = d/v

t1 = d1/v1
t2 = d1 /v2 (because d1 = d2 = 20km)

Vav = total distance/time

Vav = d1+d1/(d1/v1 + d1/v2)

Vav = 2d1/(d1V1+d1V2/V1V2)

Vav = 2V1V2/V1+V2

use this formula
Vav = 2V1V2/V1+V2

Vav = 2(40)(60)/40+60

Vav = 4800/100

Vav = 48km/h

Given Initial speed=40km /hr Final speed =60km/hr First he cOvers 20 km So  Av speed= initial speed + final speed ÷2 40+60÷ 2=100÷2=50km/hr
