Given,

Car first travelled 24km toward North

And then took a turn to East

and travelled 7km

Car took 90 degree turn (because the angle between North direction and east direction is 90 degree)

Refer to attachment

If car started from A and travelled 24 toward North

and then took turn of 90 degreen at B

and travelled 7 km to reach C

ABC is a right angled triangle at B

AC is hypotenuse = How far car travelled = distance from final point to initial point

Using PGT (Pythagoras Theorem)

AC^{2} = AB^{2} + BC^{2} \\AC = \sqrt{AB^{2} +   BC^{2} } \\

Using values of AB and BC (i.e. 24 km and 7 km)

AC = \sqrt{24^{2}  + 7^{2} } \\AC = \sqrt{576 + 49 } \\AC = \sqrt{625} \\\\AC = 25

Thus AC = 25 km

Hence Car is 25 km away from starting point

or in general words

25 km is the displacement done by car.
